I had finished reading this yesterday. I read this already 3 years ago, but completely forgot what happened so I decided to read it again right after finished The Love Story. It was a delightful read, but the ending didn’t suit me.
SPOILER ALERT!
I think the ending would’ve been better if Marcie Nash decided to provide better working conditions in her factories just like how Oliver’s father did compared to the ruthless early Barretts. Having seen this, Oliver decided to leave Marcie. I guess I’m just such a sucker for happily-ever-after endings. Hehehe!
I like Phil’s character. He’s such a good father-in-law to Oliver especially after Jenny’s death. The relationship they have is quite rare. Actually, I’ve never seen anything like it yet.
Well, I’m off to Erich Segal’s next book: Man, Woman & Child.
